About Us
Who are Shakespeare Lions?
Our local club has served Stratford upon Avon and its local community
for over 58 years since it first began in 1967.
We’re part of Lions Club International which began in 1917 in the USA and is now
the world's largest service club organisation.
Lions is a registered charity and has 1.40 million members in more than 49,000 clubs
in more than 200 countries and geographic areas.
As part of a global service network we do whatever we can to help those in need
locally, nationally and internationally.
How do we serve our community? Here are some examples which are ongoing:-

Provided training in Life Support Skills (First Aid) for over 1,700 school leavers in Stratford @July 2024. In addition we work with community groups e.g.Warwickshire Warm Hubs, to train people on CPR and using a defibrillator. To date we have trained just over 2,000 people in these skills since starting this work in 2016.
Our president for 2024/25, Anne, is seen her presenting a celebratory voucher to
Alison, who is our 2000’th trainee ( centre picture)

Run bingo sessions for senior citizens and had several litter picks around the area.

We were one of the founding charities that established the Stratford Food Bank
and make regular donations of money.

Given awards to young people acknowledging their contributions to the community.
Provided countless support to those who are in need in the local community.

How do we fund those projects?

We do most fundraising ourselves through our events, but acknowledge occasional grants towards our projects from other charitable funds -
so we’re quite an active club.
Here are some ways we fundraise ... Santa’s Sleigh tours Stratford at Christmas time,
Easter egg raffles in various venues around Stratford-upon-Avon.
we run a tombola at the Stratford River Festival and have stalls at various local fairs including Tiddington in September 2023.

We also enjoy each other’s company and there’s a lot of social events every year.
